Over the years, I’ve visited Lords and Legends more times than I can count. It’s one of those spots that holds memories—not just for me, but for so many in our community. So when I was asked to document their renovation journey, it felt personal.

My first day on the project was spent filming the “before” scenes. I walked through the familiar space with my camera in hand, fully aware that this would be the last time I’d see it in its current form. It was surreal. The lighting, the layout, the little quirks I’d grown used to—all of it was about to change. I had one chance to capture what was before it became something new.

And then came the hard part.

This wasn’t a closed set or a planned production—it was a living, breathing restaurant in the middle of transformation. Contractors were busy, customers were still coming in, and things were shifting by the hour. We had to be flexible with shoot times, patient with delays, and creative in less-than-ideal conditions.

But here’s what I’ve learned—growth and creativity rarely happen in perfect environments.

In fact, the chaos sharpened my storytelling. I wasn’t just filming renovations—I was capturing change in real-time. And more than anything, I was reminded of why I do what I do: to preserve moments, to tell honest stories, and to help others see the beauty in everything.

A few takeaways:

  1. Document the journey, not just the destination – People don’t just want polished visuals—they want to connect with the process. The effort. The in-between.
  2. Stay adaptable – If you wait for perfect conditions, you’ll miss your moment. Work with what you’ve got, and trust that the story will shine through.

The final result? A powerful visual story that reflects not just the beauty of the renovations, but the heart behind them. And I’m grateful to the staff and patrons at Lords and Legends—they welcomed us, worked with us, and helped make it all happen.

If you’ve been feeling that tug to start creating video content—but you’re hesitating because it feels intimidating, awkward, or overwhelming—you’re not alone. Most of us don’t feel “ready” when we start. But you don’t need to be perfect. You just need to begin.

Whether you’re trying to share your story, grow your business, or simply show up more consistently—I want to encourage you: start messy, start scared, but just start.

Your story matters. And video is one of the most powerful tools to share it.

Let’s grow together.
